چکیده

Aims High resolution computed tomography (CT) image based finite element (FE) models have been widely applied to assess the mechanical properties of human trabecular bone. However, the prohibitive computational cost of voxel-based FE models limits its clinical applications, especially in whole bone strength prediction by nonlinear FE analysis. There is a strong need for an alternative modeling approach that is more computationally efficient while adequately accurate.

Morphological and bone strength indices in girls with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and their correlations with leptin and soluble leptin receptor

Objective Previous studies suggested that leptin has profound effects on bone metabolism and growth. Abnormal leptin and soluble leptin receptor (sOB-R) levels and their correlation patterns with bone mineral density and trabecular bone micro-architecture were recently found to be distinct in girls with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Structural Model Index (SMI) and data derived from Fi...

Distal radius plate of CFR-PEEK has minimal effect compared to titanium plates on bone parameters in high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography: a pilot study

BACKGROUND Carbon-fiber-reinforced poly-ether-ether-ketone (CFR-PEEK) has superior radiolucency compared to other orthopedic implant materials, e.g. titanium or stainless steel, thus allowing metal-artifact-free postoperative monitoring by computed tomography (CT). Recently, high-resolution peripheral quantitative CT (HRpQCT) proved to be a promising technique to monitor the recovery of volumet...

A new approach to predict of mechanical properties at the interface of Aluminium/Copper explosive cladding by explosive scarf welding

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to produce scarf joint through explosive welding process (EXW). The scarf weld is a process in which the final bond interface is oblique. With applying the explosive welding technique, this joint can create a metallic bond between similar or dissimilar metals. In this study, chamfered end of aluminum and copper plates were joined explosively and named scar...

Multimodal μCT/μMR based semiautomated segmentation of rat vertebrae affected by mixed osteolytic/osteoblastic metastases.

PURPOSE Multimodal microimaging in preclinical models is used to examine the effect of spinal metastases on bony structure; however, the evaluation of tumor burden and its effect on microstructure has thus far been mainly qualitative or semiquantitative. Quantitative analysis of multimodality imaging is a time consuming task, motivating automated methods. As such, this study aimed to develop a ...

Effect of micro-computed tomography voxel size and segmentation method on trabecular bone microstructure measures in mice

Micro-computed tomography (μCT) is currently the gold standard for determining trabecular bone microstructure in small animal models. Numerous parameters associated with scanning and evaluation of μCT scans can strongly affect morphologic results obtained from bone samples. However, the effect of these parameters on specific trabecular bone outcomes is not well understood. This study investigat...
